RESEARCH AFFILIATION

Scholars wishing to join in the activities of the Bologna Institute for Policy Research should apply for research affiliation with SAIS. SAIS Europe welcomes the association of external scholars for appointments up to one year (renewable) as Associate Fellows. Scholars may apply to associate with SAIS Europe in one of the following roles:

  • Associate Fellow: An academic or non-academic researcher at SAIS Europe engaged in independent research within an area of interest to the resident faculty.

  • Post-Doctoral Fellow: A recent doctoral graduate within 3 years of the defense of his or her dissertation undertaking research under the sponsorship of a SAIS Europe faculty member.

  • PhD Student Fellow: A PhD student at any stage of his or her doctoral training under the supervision of a faculty member at SAIS Europe at Bologna.

Fellows benefit from exposure to a wide network of resident and adjunct faculty from across Europe. Fellows may also access the resources of the SAIS Europe library and participate in all programming, including those events closed to the general public. When appropriate, Fellows will be assigned a faculty sponsor related to their research area.

Associate fellowship does not carry financial remuneration. Fellows may be compensated for teaching or lecturing during their term as a Fellow or for work on specific externally-funded research projects. Fellows may request to access additional resources, such as office space, housing assistance and language training, on a fee-for-service basis according to availability.

Appointments to fellowship positions are made on a rolling basis by a standing committee of the SAIS Europe core faculty. Applications should be addressed to the Director of SAIS Europe and submitted via email and should include a curriculum vitae, a research project proposal, and a letter of support from a SAIS Europe professor who will act as the fellow's sponsor during his/her term.
