Alan Knight is Emeritus Professor of the History of Latin America at Oxford University, where he is a Fellow of St Antony's College. Educated at Oxford, he has also taught at the University of Essex and the University of Texas at Austin

His principal publications include The Mexican Revolution (2 vols., 1986, Spanish translation 2010); US-Mexican Relations, 1910-40 (1987); two volumes of a general history of Mexico; Revolucion, democracia y populismo en America Latina (2005); La revolucion cosmica (2013) and Repensar la Revolucion Mexicana (2 vols., 2013). He has also co-edited volumes dealing with the Mexican petroleum industry, caciquismo (‘boss politics') in Mexico, superstition in history, and the Great Depression of the 1930s in Latin America. His principal research (obviously!) concerns twentieth-century Mexico, but he has a interest in – and has written about - the comparative history of revolutions, populism, liberalism, and imperialism. In 2010 he was awarded the Aguila Azteca (Aztec Eagle).
