Professor Messitte is currently President and Professor of Politics and Government, Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin and Associate Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Europe.

Prior to this, he was Dean and the William J. Crowe Professor of Geopolitics, University of Oklahoma (2007-2012); Director of the Center for the Study of Democracy and Assistant Professor of Politics, St. Mary's College of Maryland (2002-2007); Public Information Officer, United Nations, New York and Vienna, Austria (1998-2002); Producer-Researcher, Cable News Network (CNN), Washington DC (1995-1998) and Press Spokesman, United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Washington DC (1990-1993).

Messitte has received the National Public Radio News Director's Award, KGOU Radio: World Views, "Remembering Anthony Shadid," (June 2013); White Buffalo Mask Award for Outstanding Service and Contributions to the Mission of the University of Oklahoma's School of Drama (May 2010); The St. Mary's College of Maryland Student Government's Student Life Award (2005-2006) and Faculty Service Award (2004-2005). Messitte received his PhD from New York University and his MA from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
