Jack Thompson is Senior Researcher at the Global Security Team Center for Security Studies of ETH in Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology).
He is an expert on US foreign policy, with particular interest in grand strategy, political leadership, transatlantic relations, and partisan politics. He has written or co-edited several books, including Great Power Rising: Theodore Roosevelt and the Politics of U.S. Foreign Polic (Oxford University Press, 2019), How the United States Ends Wars (Berghahn Books, 2019), Progressivism in America: Past Present and Future (Oxford University Press, 2016), and America's Transatlantic Turn: Theodore Roosevelt and the "Discovery" of Europe (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012). His work has been published in Diplomacy and Statecraft, The Journal of Gilded Age Politics and Economics, The Journal of Transatlantic Studies, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, and Le Temps, and he is a frequent commentator in the media. Before joining the CSS, he worked at universities or research institutes in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
He holds degrees from the University of Cambridge, the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and the University of St. Thomas.
